Purposefully

I completed Purpose Driven Life a while ago. It has taken me on a journey of understanding and has helped me to put some things into perspective. I really enjoyed reading Purpose Driven Life. Because it was so centred around discovering God's purpose for your life and you being or going through a journey. Towards the end of the book on day 40, I was so exhausted in just getting on in life that I fell asleep before I could read. Though I made sure that I read it the next day without fail. I did not complete The Secret. it became boring as it just seemed to centre around the Universe and although it contained quotes from the Bible, it just didn't have that edge for me. I am told I should watch the DVD. i might one day.

My Blackberry is proving more useful everyday. My friend sent me a link for an application that allows me to access the Bible on my phone on the go. It is called YouVersion and you can download this application for many phone models. My Blackberry now has the Holy Bible on it. You get daily reads and can specify which version you wish to read and switch between them. One of my twitter pals also recommended Olive Tree as another useful application.

Right now I am still pretty much doing my best to think in faith. I have a friend at work who is a non practicing muslim. We were having a conversation at the Coffee Bar at work. He lives across the street from my church so I always extend an invitation to him. Somewhere along the line in our conversation I said to him "God is omnipresent, God is everywhere!" I noticed the guy behind us was smiling and quitely chuckling. Nothing horrible. We often have these conversations and although it may seem like we are having a laugh, I am serious. Messages get delivered in many ways and guises. You just do not hear this conversation all the time and not at work. I have similar conversations all the time.

starting 2009 with purpose

Before I get into 2009 let me just tell you this. I am so determined to get my spirit my soul my life where it ought to be. I was at church towards the end of 2008 and there was a guest speaker. Sorry forgotten his name. He gave a good service. He did sly alter call. I will say sly because he did say put your hands up where you are and I will pray for you. Then came the come to alter bla bla bla. Not meaning to sound blaze' but I am trying to get this all out so I can read my book. You willl understand as you read on.

I can over analyse or over think. That may come from the fact that I am not one for surprises. Unless of course I am found pregnant with twin girls in view of the fact I have contraception. Anyway so I dutifully and willingly went to the alter and prayed and was prayed upon. We did a joint prayer committing ourselves to getting to know Jesus thus making that promise to God. I will declare now. Jesus is my saviour!!!

I was not sure when to leave the alter but took my guess when I felt like the person next to me had gone. I think it is the attention on me that makes my heart skip a beat no less. But why when through all my nerves I used to sing and recite poetry publicly. I need to loosen up. Not too much.

Anyway so I bought a few books back in October 2008. One of those books is Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. It says it is a 40 day spiritual journey that will give you an understanding of why you are on earth and God's amazing plan for you. I like the sound of that. So today is day 1. I am going to try blog my thoughts here as I read. I might not be able to do daily blogs but I will do weekly.

Blessings for 2009

Christmas Carol service

Aww what an honor it was to be asked to participate in the Christmas carol service at my church. My friend told her other half that I write poems which I do. But have not written for awhile. So to start off with it took me a moment or two, to get my poetry in motion.

At first I was stuck on the concept of tying my thoughts with the Billie Holliday song "God bless the child". It felt strange and I could not understand why. So I naturally tried to talk myself out of taking part. Excuses no babysitter etc. Silly me. Christmas service is something to bring the little ones too. Its church but different to the usual praise and worship followed by prayers and sermon format. It is a night out.

So in a slight panic I reached out to my good friends Tan who spoke encouraging words and gave me feedback. After that call I turned that poem around. I removed the song bit and tied it in two the mood of the season and what Christmas is truly about.

The poem was well recieved. The points where well made. It turned out to be thought provoking. So much emphasis is placed on gifts material things etc. I can honestly say I cannot see the strong signs of Christmas like you got a few years ago. The christmas trees and their sparklies are there. One area where I live there are a few Christmas decorations but it is mainly diwalli. mmmm. no comment.

Well anyway I got my wish. I wanted to get more involved with church and what a way too. I even sang in the finale not by myself though.

In need of prayer

Sometime I let people know my mood. On FB I had the tag -In need of prayer. One of my long time school and you could say family friends sent me this Bible verse which helped to put things in perspective. This was a few months ago. I need to log these more often.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.(1 Corinthians 9:24-27)

I have just re-read that verse. It is so true. Oh my days. I need to start running spiritually.

The Secret or is it?

I have partly read a book called The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. My friend noticed that I had been reading it and sent this message to me.

I have noticed you are reading quite alot of good books.Remeber those
books can really help you.Also i have noticed that one of you books is on the
secret. Those are univerasal laws that work for anyone that uses them. The bible
is also got these laws. God put them for us to use.I have watched The secret
Dvd. The only thing is these people use Gods law and claim all the gllory to
themselves as if they r gods themselves.I have done a little research on these
people they r into some funky stuff.What they say on the laws r true, that is as
far as it goes for me.It is fascinating.You will c it if you read the
bible.Jesus did these micracles by acknowedging the father & giving him the
glory.God of the universe is, is God all by himself. Adam & Eve claimed that
they want to be as God themselves to be come gods. This was in the garden by
listening 2 the serpent, thats when sin entered the world.We are created by God
& God gives us the ability 2 create.This what These people don't believe in
sin & we need a SAVIOUR.Thank God 4 Jesus that he came in fleshly form. The
sacrifice for mankind.I thought you might find this interesting.

Now I haven't finished the book and might just get the dvd to watch. It just keeps telling me about the universe which conflicts with what I believe in. I have been reading it and wondering where is God in this. If I finish the book or watch the dvd I will indeed review it here.

TD Jakes - junk in your trunk

I always love watching the Potters House on TV. TD Jakes style of preaching is so understandable. He speaks my language and I am sure people younger than me can understand what he says. He relates to people well.

Anyway I saw this sermon on the other day and was so happy to find on YouTube. There seems to be two channels on there said to belong his ministries
