Lay Saw Gives Her Life to Christ

15 December 2015
Lady Saw is one of the most well know Dancehall artists around. She is known for her raw and often slack lyrics. From discussing being a glorified concubine to what she gets up to in the bedroom. Upon attending the funeral of fellow artist J. Capri, Lady Saw aka Marion Hall said she heard God speak to her and would be cancelling her upcoming shows. She has decided to take up her cross and follow Jesus. Shortly after a video emerged on her Instagram showing her being baptised.

Many naysayers have come forth saying they have heard this before. However we who are in Christ must remember who God calls, He calls. Many saints fall and get back up. Folk do not know the type of work the Holy Spirit has been doing in her life. Let us celebrate her as a fellow sister in Christ. After all God knows her heart.

Oru Worship Centre | Let Praises Rise

9 December 2015

I really do love praise and worship. I have over the years began to broaden my music tastes concerning praise music. I love my gospel but there is something about Christian music in general that moves me.

Oru Worship centre, is a group who express their faith through music. They hold music services and have worship cd's. You can find out more about them on their website.

Right now thanks in part to Trey McLaughlin who created a beautiful rendition to this song with his team. I am so loving this song and what it says about glorifying God and getting to the heart of worship. Have a listen to both versions.

My Favourite Bible Apps

1 December 2015
Bible Apps

These the current Bible apps on my phone. I also have on or two more on my tablet.
Starting from left to right and top to bottom: Holy Bible KJV by Tecarta, Bible Study by Olive Tree, Bible Gateway, ESV Bible by Crossway, Got Questions, Bible by YouVersion, Abide Prayer app and In Touch Ministries.

Of all of these the Bible App by YouVersion is my favourite. It gives me access to many translations plus reading plans. I can pick from a few days to a whole year. It is through this app that I was able to read the whole Bible in 90 days. Of course you can choose the yearly plan. Bookmarking is easy and if you register your own account you can follow friends and see how they use the app for reading plans and bookmarking. There is the option to not  share activities with friends. Some of the Bible versions come with full audio. Which you can use with your reading plans or to simply listen to the Word as you go about your day.

As it is December many of the Christmas reading plans are being highlighted. So I am doing a 25 day reading plan called Joy to Your World! A countdown to Christmas. It gives me some reading alongside scripture reading(s). I quite like the reading plans as there are so much to chose from on various topics.

Bible App - YouVersion

The Bible Study App by Olive Tree is mainly used on my laptop. I have it on my phone as well and I am able to sync my learning materials across devices. You get the KJV Bible free and then are able to buy other Bibles ( some are free). However they always have offers on. I have 6 Bible translations which have been all free. It also gives me access to dictionaries maps and commentaries. Plus a whole host of other resources for free and to buy. This app also comes with reading plans.

Got Questions was suggested to me by a relative. Its a resource to go for Biblical questions on various topics. It has proven to be a useful app for when I want to expand on topics or simply explore them further. There are times I have read answers where I thought mmm not sure if I agree but that is what discernment is for right and the need to do always do a bit more research on your own.

Holy Bible KJV by Tecarta is very simple and easy to use. I occasionally use this when in church if not using my fave app. Once downloaded can read offline.

ESV Bible app offers the full English Standard Version in an app that is accessible whether connected to the internet or not. You do not get any reading plans with this app. Though navigations is straight forward and rather easy.

Bible Gateway is an amazing resource. I often visit the website so do not use the app as much. Yet Bible Gateway gives you many translations and not just in english. There are reading plans and audio options.

I can't remember how I came across the Abide Prayer app but I do like the concept. You can listen to prayers. There are options to be guided into prayer and meditation of the Word of God.

The last app on my phone is In Touch Ministries app. My friend suggested this one to me. SO that I could listen to sermons on the go. There are also daily devotionals, a section on God's promises and much more. I aim to use this one more often.

I hope this gives you an idea of useful apps worth considering for your mobile device and that they will bless you the way they have blessed me.

God's Not Dead 2 | When Faith is Deemed Illegal

4 November 2015
God's Not Dead 2 is scheduled for release in April next year (USA release date).  Like the previous film it has some focus on what is being said in the classroom and how people react to that. This time around it shows how Christians are persecuted for the mere mention of Jesus in a non religious setting.

This reminds me of the on going saga regarding an american sports coach who prays after the games by himself at 1st whose team decided they wished to join him. Its really sad that so many people are offended by the mere mention of God but they will turn His name into a curse word without a second thought.

Why is it okay to speak about things that are taboo but not God?

Take a look at the video below and definitely support the film when it comes out.

The Bridge is Out!

19 October 2015
Below is a message I received in a shared group

A preacher was driving home one night with his wife and two daughters in the car. It was raining and dark and because of the intensity of the rain he could hardly see past his headlights. On the way he had to drive over a huge bridge. There were signs posted all along the bridge that said "DO NOT PICK HITCH-HIKERS." There was an institute for the criminally insane near the base of the bridge and sometimes people would escape from it and try to hitch a ride.

On this particular night, as he turned his car on to the bridge, he had to drive exceptionally slow because he could hardly see the road. Somewhere near the top of the bridge a man suddenly appeared in the headlights. He was soaked, standing in the middle of the road with his shirt off frantically waving it over his head and screaming.
This preacher's wife began to say, "Oh please don't stop, try to drive around him!" But the man was unavoidable and there was nowhere for the car to go to miss him. So he had to stop the car and as soon as he did, the man slapped his hand down on the hood of the car and was screaming at the top of his lungs.

The preacher looked over at his wife and said to lock the door after him and not to unlock it until he returned. His family was now crying and pleading with him not to get out of the car. He opened the door and stepped outside...He was immediately soaked from the rain. As he approached the front of the car to grab the man, all of a sudden he could make out what the man was screaming, "THE BRIDGE IS OUT! THE BRIDGE IS OUT! A BUS LOAD OF KIDS JUST WENT OVER!" As these words registered in the pastor's mind, he looked back in the car at his wife and two daughters. He wrapped his arm around the man and wept in gratitude. The preacher stood there with the man for the next half-hour in the middle of the road, waving his jacket above his head screaming."THE BRIDGE IS OUT! THE BRIDGE IS OUT!"

For a lost and a dying world, "THE BRIDGE IS OUT!"
For a people heading to a Christ-less Eternity,"THE BRIDGE IS OUT!"
Where are the men and the women who will stand in the middle of the road and forbid people to perish ?
HELL HAS OPENED IT'S MOUTH WIDE AND MANY ARE SPEEDING INTO IT

Where are those who will stand in the gap, on the streets, the highways and the byways to forbid multitudes with the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST from going to such a horrible place ?

SPREAD THE GOSPEL

Lovely Thoughts For Lovely
People Just Like You.
Always Remember
JESUS Loves You . .....
Share this message to all your friends, both Saved and unsaved THE BRIDGE IS OUT!

GOD BLESS YOU!

Kirsten Watson on Drawing Near to Christ

25 July 2015

Kirsten Watson is a mother and wife to Benjamin Watson. She shares her testimony about drawing near to Christ. She also discusses how her faith impacts her family.

The part that stood out to me was when she said "I feel like I have been a Christian for a long time. I have read the Bible, I can tell you the gospel.... I can get excited but I feel like God is taking me into another place of saying: I just want you to draw near to me. Its like .....  you speak about me but I want you to know me. "

This is such a short video but the message is so powerful I had to share. Even I have to look into myself assess the fact that I need to work on my own relationship with Christ that much more.

Do watch the video and be inspired be encouraged and stay forever blessed.

A bit of Praise and Worship

2 July 2015

I really do love praise and worship. It is one of my favourite moments to partake in during a church service. So when I find a good song that moves my spirit I cant help but to listen to it over and over again.

Whilst browsing youtube this video appeared as a suggestion titled "Pure Worship Raw". It is of 3 young ladies singing a medley of gospel songs. The songs are - My Hands are Lifted Up by Jamal Strong, Turning Away by Andrew Wilson, Fill Me Up by Casey J / Tasha Cobbs I Love You by Tye Tribbett

So far I have found that the middle girl is named Briana Babineaux who has a single out of her own.

I have been truly blessed listening to all three sing.

Prayers For Emmanuel AME Church

19 June 2015

As you will have heard by now the Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, North Carolina suffered a racially motivated terrorist attack. Dylann Roof planned the attack for six months prior. It is believed he confessed to that attack admitting that he almost changed his mind as the congregation taking part in Bible studies was so nice to him. He sat in the class for an hour before killing 9 people including the Pastor, Rev. Clementa Pinckney.

The lady who spotted his car is a Christian lady who stated that she was praying at the time for the church members when she spotted the car.  She managed to get the license plate number and called the police who were able to arrest Dylann.

This church is rooted in history from slavery through to the civil rights era. The church has played a pivotal role in its community.

Please keep them in prayer.

Erica Campbell | I Luh God video

14 June 2015

Erica Campbell debuted the music video to her song "I Luh God". As it has been deemed Gospel meets Trap music many are divided about the song. Yet the content of the song merely expresses how much she loves God and asks the listener if they don't why not?

Take a look at the video which features Big Shiz aka LaShawn Daniels who has appeared on the Tamar and Vince show.

About Christian Reality TV

9 May 2015

There is definitely a new season in reality TV that involves Christianity and her people. This new era was ushered in more so with the Preachers of LA whose franchise now includes Preachers of Detroit. These preacher shows get a lot of critique based more so on the financial abundance and oppulent lifestyles they live. One or two pastors raised an eyebrow or two for being in a relationship for years with no marriage in the foreseeable future.

Do you remember the other show called the Sisterhood which focused on women that were either Pastors themselves or married to men of God and the different issues they faced. It was pitied to be above the other reality shows but like much of reality TV shows this day there is always a conflict resolution formula that makes everyone look the worst for taking part. An even longer franchise is called Preacher's Daughters. The behaviour of the girls is often less than stellar.

All of these shows and the ones I have yet to come across face intense scrutiny from both believers and non-believers. Despite the criticism and campaigns they still make it to screen and garner a faithful viewership. Which brings us to Lifetime's latest instalment currently called Preachers. It is about four women prophets or prophetesses and the women they are mentoring. Following them on a mission of praise worship healing prophesy and more. As it is reality TV all the extra dramatics are included.

I have read mixed reviews from people who will not be watching to those who feel it's ok. My thoughts are will people who have no church upbringing or faith walk understand what is being presented to them. When you see someone slain in the spirit will this show explain biblically what is taking place. How about when prophecy takes place will the viewer be shown who the source is etc?

Non Christians will probably see this as lunacy indeed but have no problem fainting as their latest celebrity crush walks in their presence. My only concern is that it allows voyeurism of the church with no contextual understanding. Switch on to Christian TV networks or have a look around youtube and you will see similar stuff indeed without all the extra made for TV theatrics and commentary.

I am assuming people see this as a mockery of the church because of the Reality TV genre. Whereas had this been a documentary that gives understanding with some Biblical teaching thrown in many would not be as against it. When I saw the trailer all I could think about was that film Leap of Faith which starred Steve Martin. Now I will admit I do watch the Preachers of LA and Detroit but something about this particular reality show offering seemed to be a bit off. Hopefully the arguing back and forth as displayed in The Sisterhood will not present itself here. I just hope and pray the show is better than the clip.

In contrast The Sheards is a reality TV show that follows the family life of one of the Clarke sisters and her husband and children. Main star is definitely gospel singer Kiera "KeKe" Sheard who showcases her talent and focuses on her music. Her brother however faces different challenges. This show has been deemed ok but I suppose it comes from a different vein. It has not been about showing up the church or presenting the church in a negative way.

Does church business belong in reality TV or any TV for that matter? What are your thoughts to thus surge in Christian based reality TV shows.

Own Your Own Happiness | TD Jakes

23 April 2015

Bishop TD Jakes appeared on the Steve Harvey show and shared his thoughts on happiness. He stressed the importance of choosing to be happy and enjoying the journey whilst making time to enjoy life. Watch the video and be inspired.

Sugar Coated Preaching

16 April 2015
I came across the below pic on my FB timeline and thought I had to share it. The other week my Pastor mentioned that there was a certain undertone creeping into the church. Let us stick to the Bible truth and not change it according to what the world wants to hear. You can still show your neighbour love whilst remaining faithful to the word of God.

(3)For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; (4)and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables (NKJV)

Michelle Williams Beyonce Kelly Rowland | Stellar Performance

9 April 2015

Michelle Williams was joined by her Destiny's Child bandmates Beyonce and Kelly Rowland at the 2015 Stellar Awards show. The Stellars showcase the who is who in the gospel music scene.

I love the fact that after so many years even though all 3 of ventured off to do their own projects they always come together to show each other love. Whether that is video appearance vocals on a track to key life events. In a world where so many groups split acrimoniously. The DC3 have shown the world they are better off as friends, sisters for life.

Such a lovely performance of such a great song.

Kierra Sheard | Flaws

6 April 2015

I first heard this song as a cover version sunng by Trey Mclaughlin and friends. So my joy at hearing this original version by Kierra Sheard.

Flaws is a song about imperfections and realising that God loves us with our imperfections. God is able to look past our flaws.

Take a look at the lyric video and read along to the words. I truly feel the meaning of this song.

He is Risen!

5 April 2015

I live because of Him. He died on the cross for me and you. He conquered death and the grave so that I may live. Know that Jesus loves you and all of this He did so that you may have life.

Stay blessed knowing that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is alive. He paid it all on that cross.

You can read more about the resurrection of Jesus Christ in Matthew 28

Passover 2015

3 April 2015

Passover is often celebrated under the name Easter by many throughout the world. However the correct name of this weekend observance and celebration is only called Passover in the Bible. Or as it is referred to in the Bible "The Lord's Passover".  You can read about the Lord's Passover in Exodus 12.

Passover was initiated to prepare the Jews for the coming of the messiah Jesus. Who would be sacrificed and whose blood shedding would atone humanities sins. It is worth reading both the Passover story and the death and resurrection of Jesus together to see the similarities. I am told this is one of many examples of shadowing in the Bible.

You will see that Passover ensured that when Israel was set free from Egypt they were ready to leave straight away. They did not have to prepare because they were already prepared by sticking to what God had commanded of them.

Is it Passover for you or is it Easter? Either way these are definitely days our Lord deserves to be glorified and thanked for His ultimate sacrifice to us.

Mary Mary | On Sway

6 March 2015

Tina and Erica Campbell from Gospel group Mary Mary appeared on radio show Sway in the Morning. They discuss their issues of infidelity, disconnection, family, music business and more.
Take a look as they show that Christians still have the same struggles as regular folk. Some people may find them to open others will find them transparent.

Fill Me Up | Casey J

28 February 2015

Whilst listening to the radio I came across this song by Casey J called Fill Me Up. It caught my attention. I got my phone out and opened up Shazam to see if I could find out the songs name.

The opening verse says:

If you provide the fire
Then I will provide the sacrifice
If you pour out your spirit
Then I will open up inside
Fill me up God
It reminds of several Bible verses that talk about God's spirit being poured out onto His people. Such as Acts 2:17 and Proverbs 1:23. This song puts it into perspective. For many God is waiting on you to say yes and open up to Him. It is a process. I myself have had a brick wall surrounding me due to life's tragedies yet I realise that I need let go sometimes and just be open with Christ. It is a process and I am learning.

Just as much as the song brings me joy it has a vulnerable aspect to it. You can be closed off for so many reasons but is that blocking your blessings. Open up to God and watch Him move in your life.

A Conversation of Faith

19 February 2015

Last week I had the pleasure of discussing God with complete strangers. My social circle has dwindled a lot over the past few years and such opportunities are not there. In my last job it was a case of colleagues querying me as to why I believed etc. This time though it was a pleasant surprise and a wonderful opportunity that just passed my way.

The first guy came by the house to tend to some damp issues. Upon asking me if there is an operational C02 monitor. I mentioned that it is always by my big Bible that no one but me is allowed to touch as it was my Mum's Bible. He then told me that his daughter stopped believing in God and that he visited her recently and noticed she had a Bible out on the table. He said he chose to just to observe that fact rather than say anything. He is hoping her faith returns.

The second guy whom I will refer to as the gas man. He came to service the gas appliances and boiler. After about ten minutes or so he looked over at my iPod and asked if that was Christian music I was listening to. I confirmed it was and from then on a conversation ensued.

Throughout our discussion I learned that this man had been on a journey through life and has probably wrestled with a few things. He admitted to no longer believing in God or reading his Bible. At one point despite his lack of belief he did read his Bible. He explained to me he became disheartened with church because he felt that the different denominations concentrate in part on saying they are best because xyz and not focused on the Word.

One of the things that troubled him was the act of speaking in tongues. The Bible states :
If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God (1 Corinthians 14:27-28 KJV)
He basically went onto say that he found charismatic pentecostalist off putting. Because you could be in church and everyone is so eager to prove they have this gift that they compete to a point of faking it. He said you could tell some people were speaking tongues whilst others were pretending. Too often there is no interpretation so how is that when this happens the church is acting according to what the Bible said.

I was like okay. I can understand what you are saying because the Bible does clearly say what speaking in tongues is for etc. We spoke for the majority of the time he was here about God. It just made me feel that deep down inside he probably still believes. He may simply have been failed by the leadership of the churches he attended or something anything. I made sure that whilst he was in my house I sent up a prayer to God. I am believing God for a turnaround in this mans life and that he will come back to church well rather back to his faith in God in Christ. It just sounded like he wants to believe like he once did but some dots are not connecting.

Should I have said to him please pause a minute and let me pray for you so he could here it. Or praying quietly without his knowledge is ok. Surely everyone you pray for does not need to know you are praying for them. After all God is everywhere right. A prayer is a prayer right? In my spirit I just felt like his faith could be restored. How is it that someone who has lost faith in God and no longer believes knows the Word, quotes the Word and would willingly speak non-stop about whom they say belief in has gone. How so?

Christian Mingle | Movie

10 February 2015

The somewhat known Christian singles dating site now has a movie attached to its name. Christian Mingle the movie. Centres around a woman seeking a partner and decides to try a Christian website even though she is not a Christian or even an active church goer herself. As time progresses her faith or rather lack thereof is called into question. She soon starts re-discovering her own faith and developing a relationship with God.

It was released in the USA October 2014 but no signs of UK release or dvd as yet.

It looks like a romantic comedy with a Christian centre.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr - Sermon

16 January 2015

Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr is most famously recognised as one of the most prominent faces of the African American Civil Rights Movement in the USA. He is the face of peaceful yet persistent protest. He was also a much respected Pastor. I was watching a video on Youtube and this sermon was mentioned.

The Drum Major Instinct Sermon - discusses living within your means. He talks about this need that people have to over stretch their finances so they can compete with other people and prove their worth. In other words materialism and consumerism which we can see today. This constant need to out do the Jones' to a point of destruction. He even goes further in regards to the supposed friends people will claim to have just to prove their worth.

The church culture is mentioned too. King states that Church is the one place where the doctor lawyer  teacher should be able to go and forget their titles etc. Otherwise church just becomes no better than a social club. (paraphrased)

The Bible reference given for this sermon is Mark 10:35-45. I encourage you to listen to the full sermon below. What he says definitely applies to todays society.

R.I.P. Andrae Crouch

9 January 2015

Legendary Gospel singer songwriter Andrae Crouch passed away on the 8th January 2015 at the age of 72 after suffering a heart attack.

Crouch was known for his amazing work in gospel and  secular circuits with top artists such as Michael Jackson. He also wrote songs for movies such as the Lion King. Throughout his career he was lauded with many awards including Grammy's and Dove awards.

In a statement his twin sister Sandra Crouch said "Today my twin brother, my womb-mate and best friend went home to be with the Lord. Please keep me, my family and our church family in your prayers. I tried to keep him here but God loved him best."

Bishop Iona Locke - Preach

5 January 2015

As I read Christian blogs I always come across posts about the COGIC church sermons. The Church of God in Christ is known for not holding back the Bible truth in it's sermons. Bishop Iona Locke has indeed preached up a storm and called out church folk on their worldly behaviours that some have allowed to creep into the church. She mentions a lot from the music that is being played in the church to the morals of church members especially of those holding office. So worth a listen.

Happy New Year 2015

3 January 2015
I hope and pray that 2015 has started of nicely for you.
